How Mara works

From your business to a helpful answer.

Mara learns what you know, answers customers in your voice, and brings you in when a person is the better next step. See the whole journey below.

01

Put Mara on your site

One line goes on your website. When it loads, Mara is ready and the site is confirmed as yours. Nothing else on your pages changes.

Usually five minutes, or forward it to whoever built your site

Paste this one line into mamatskitchen.com, just before the closing tag at the end of the page:

<script src="https://mara.support/api/public/widget/k/pk_your_own_key.js" async></script>

Nothing else to do after that. There is no file to save and no code to verify: only the person who controls mamatskitchen.com can make that line load from its pages, so the first time it does, she is answering and the website is confirmed as yours in the same moment.

One line to paste into your site, or to forward to whoever built it. Nothing else changes on your pages.

<script src="https://mara.support/api/public/widget/k/pk_your_own_key.js" async></script>

In the real thing this line already has your own key in it, and there is a button that sends it to whoever looks after your site, with a note explaining what it is.

Where it goes, in your site's own words

WordPress

Takes about two minutes
  1. Sign in to your site and find the dark menu down the left.
  2. Choose Appearance, then Theme File Editor. If you have the WPCode plugin instead, choose Code Snippets → Add Snippet → Add Your Custom Code.
  3. Paste the line into the Footer box (WPCode), or into footer.php just above the line that reads </body>.
  4. Press Update File — or, with WPCode, Save Snippet and switch it to Active.
  5. Open your homepage once in a new tab. That first load is what tells us she is there.

It sits in the footer — the strip at the bottom of every page — so she appears on all of them.

If you cannot see Appearance at all, your site is on WordPress.com's free plan — send the line to whoever set the site up instead.

WordPress: adding code to your theme

These are the same steps the product gives you, naming the menus you will actually see.

If you cannot install anything at all

You get a page of your own instead, with her on it. Send the link and nothing has to be installed anywhere.

Let her read your pages

Mara works through your pages, shows what she has read, and makes any missing information easy to spot.

Usually a few minutes

She goes through your pages herself. You do not choose them.

03

Make her yours

Choose her name, picture, button words, and your brand colour. The real customer chat changes as you choose.

Usually a minute

Your colour

Her picture

She appears beside every answer.

What people see in the corner

If a colour would be hard to read on, she keeps your colour on the edges and puts the words on something readable instead. You cannot end up with a chat nobody can read.

04

See her answer

Ask a real question. Mara answers from your pages, points to where the answer came from, and responds in the customer’s language.

Usually straight away

After Mara starts answering

You stay in control of what happens next.

Mara works from your information. When a person is the better next step, she asks before bringing you in. When you correct something, she uses the correction from then on.

01

When a person should step in

The conversation carries over, so your customer does not have to begin again.

What reaches you, seconds later

Someone is waiting for a person

they asked

my order arrived cold and im upset

  • Everything already said, in order, so nobody repeats themselves.
  • Anything they sent — a photo, a document, a voice message with its words written out.
  • One way to reply: at your desk, or by replying to the message itself.

waiting on you · just now
She promised this customer a person would reply, so you are told once by message and reminded here until someone does.

02

When something needs correcting

Say what is right in your own words and Mara uses it for the next customer.

Tell her what is right

After

Type a correction on the left and press Save. The answer changes here, in front of you.

Where customers meet her

One Mara, wherever you need her.

Every place leads to the same conversation and the same desk for your team.

    Behind my own button

Your button, your words, your position — she opens when it is pressed.

A page I can link to

A page of her own you can send anybody to.

  • 05

    A printed code

A code on a table, a counter, a van, an invoice or a window.
